The doctors are happy to carry out medicals, e.g. insurance and driving licence by appointment within surgery hours.  Please telephone the surgery for an appointment.  Ask at reception for the charges for these services.

A registered counsellor is available at the practice.  Appointments must be made through your doctor.

Travel Immunisations/Vaccinations
Please make an appointment at least eight weeks in advance of your holiday to ensure adequate cover.  A charge will be made for certain immunisations and vaccinations which are not covered by the NHS.  A list of these charges is held at reception.

Flu Clinic
An influenza vaccination is particularly recommended for all patients over 65 years of age and those with heart, lung, liver or kidney disease, diabetes, their carers and residents of nursing and rest homes.  Please contact the reception staff in October for details of the vaccination dates and to make an appointment.  From time to time the Department of Health will add ‘at risk’ groups eligible for this vaccination programme – please contact reception for up-to-date details.  If you unable to attend the surgery, a home visit will be arranged to undertake this facility.

Pneumovax Vaccinations
A single dose pneumovax vaccination is also highly recommended for all patients over 65 years of age as this will help protect them from pneumococcal disease which includes pneumonia, septicaemia, meningitis and immunosuppression.  Please telephone to arrange an appointment.

Yellow Fever Immunisations
Gosport Medical Centre is an authorised Yellow Fever Vaccination centre.

pregnantMaternity Care
We like to see you early in your pregnancy as soon after two weeks from the first missed period.  The midwives hold antenatal clinics every week, where we encourage you to ask questions and discuss any problems.  Partners are very welcome.  The midwives visit you at home early in the pregnancy and informal talks and relaxation classes are held by the midwives.
Your appointments will be at Blake Birth Centre.  Any queries please telephone 023 9252 3651.

Child Health Surveillance
If your child is under five years of age, please register them for regular checks on development and a physical examination.

Contraception
We offer confidential advice to patients of any age.  Our doctors and nurses are full qualified and interested in providing a complete range of contraceptive services, including the pill, the coil, the cap and general advice as well as discussing infertility problems.

Cervical Smears
This is a very important test to detect early changes that can lead to cancer of the neck of the womb.  The simple test, which is done by the practice nurse or doctor, is recommended to be carried out between three and five yearly intervals depending on the age of the patient.  Please ask us for further details.

Care of the Elderly
Elderly patients who are over 75 years of age and have not been seen by a GP for over a year are welcome to telephone and book a health screening check.

Sickness Certificates
You do not require a doctor’s sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self certification form (SC2) which they will supply. If they require a signed doctor’s certificate for this period, a private one is issued for a fee payable by the employer. For any illness lasting longer than seven days, you will need to see the doctor for a sickness certificate (MED3) to be issued and for any subsequent renewal of the certificate.

Private Fees
Some services are not covered by the National Health Service, such as passport forms, private forms and certificates, insurance and driving medicals. A fee will be charged for these services. Details of these fees can be obtained from our reception staff.
